Samsung Announces New Instinct for Sprint

Samsung today announced the Instinct S30, a successor to the Instinct. The Instinct S30 (model number SPH-M810) is more streamlined than the orginal, and will be available in two colors: “Cobalt Metal” and “Touch of Copper”. The S30 will come with Opera Mini 4.2, calendar sync, IM, and an upgraded memory card slot supporting 32 GB cards. For data, the S30 has EVDO Rel. 0. Otherwise, the S30 is similar in size and specs to the original Instinct, including a 2-megapixel camera and threaded messaging. The S30 will also sport more advanced APIs for developers to create advanced Java applications, including APIs for multimedia, messaging, Bluetooth, Contacts, Calendar, and the filesystem. All of these APIs will be available on all future Sprint Java phones. The Instinct S30 will be availble April 19 for $129.99, with a 2-year contract, after $70 instant savings and $100 mail-in rebate.

Samsung B7300 specs show up

Samsung B7300

We told you a while ago that Samsung B7300 Windows Mobile touchscreen handset is on the way.
But, except for the good looks, we didn’t know very much about it then. Well, today we learned the key specs of Samsung B7300 and they are nothing much to write about.

The best thing we can say about Samsung B7300 now, is that it will most likely be a pretty cheap full touch smartphone.

samsung-b7300-specs

The specs of upcoming Samsung B7300 include:

* Quad-band GSM, GPRS, Edge connectivity
* Windows Mobile OS, TouchWiz UI
* 3.2” 320×400px TFT LCD touchsreen
* 3.2 megapixel camera
* FM Radio
* built-in GPS
* Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0 (microUSB)
* Dimensions: 107,9 x 51,8 x 12,98 mm
* Weight: 100gr

Unfortunately, even if it kept the good looks of Samsung UltraTouch S8300 and is a smartphone, B7300 lost too many good parts to make me happy. You know, things like slide-out keypad, Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity.

Still, it will probably be a rather cheap device for a full touch smartphone. And if it manages to get into below 200 EUR price range, it might become quite a seller for Samsung.

Concept – iPhone killer by Sony Ericsson

Sony Ericsson M610i

An Esato forum member known as beta-tester has posted his version of a new Sony Ericsson’s smartphone P3i. The idea is that the device works on new interface for UIQ platform (finger-oriented input). We’ve recently written about leaked pictures from the closed presentation probably demonstrating the interface. Sony Ericsson hasn’t made any official confirmation and its fans are creating the iPhone-style concepts.

Sony Ericsson P3i is equipped with a big touchscreen and has no buttons. In addition the device combines advantages of Cyber-shot cameraphones (5-megapixel camera) and Walkman handsets. But I’d remind you this is just a concept. So time will show what will be the real iPhone killer by Sony Ericsson (if exists).

Pictures of new Sony Ericsson W44S super-flip Bravia phone

Sony Ericsson have announced a new mobile phone with an exotic looking super-flip form factor. Instead of opening vertically, like a traditional clamshell, the new Sony Ericsson W44S Bravia phone flips open on it side, revealing a huge screen that's perfect for viewing movies and mobile TV on.

Mobile TV? Yup, this Sony Ericsson's got the lot.

More details and koads more pictures of the Sony Ericsson W44S Bravia phone after the jump.

The specs for the W44S are pretty impressive (which is what you'd expect for a Japanese phone):

  • one-seg digital TV broadcast reception
  • digital radio reception
  • CDMA EVDO
  • felica electronic money
  • 3" (240×432 16:9) wide screen with Bravia RealityMAXtechnology
  • 3.2MP CMOS camera with AutoFocus
  • dual 16mm diameter stereo speakers for 128voices polyphonic ringtone
  • MS Pro Duo slot built in 115Mb flash

Ironically, this has got me pretty annoyed! This is a superb mobile phone, and can clearly take on Nokia's latest N-Series multimedia computers, but Sony Ericsson have chosen to make it a Japanese-only model (destined for AU KDDI, if you're interested!). This means those of us outside of Japan have to put up with Sony Ericsson's less technologically-impressive mobile phones, which, although great mobile phones, don't come anywhere near what Nokia has planned with the Nokia N95.

This presumably is part of Sony Ericsson's strategy - release stunning tour de force phones in its home Japanese market, while leaving other territories with good, but inferior, phones. This is a similar strategy that Samsung and LG follow, and it's fair enough to a degree, as the Japanese and Korean markets expect higher levels of technology than we do in the UK and elsewhere. But it's still annoying for those of us thirsting for a Sony Ericsson mobile TV phone that can take on Nokia at its game (and generally with better styling).

However, this strategy leaves Nokia blazing the trail for top-end mobile phones, and risks demoting Sony Ericsson in the eyes of the consumer as a maker of good but not market-leading mobile phones. Although this strategy hasn't hurt Motorola yet (whose technology is seamingly years behind the others), Motorola struck lucky with the designer looks of the RAZR, and that's a fad that may be coming to an end (or at least being taken up by LG with the LG Chocolate and LG Shine ranges).

Given that Sony Ericsson have traditionally been known for their high-end high-tech phones, this presumed change of focus may not be the best marketing strategy for the company.

Which is just a long winded way of me saying "come on Sony Ericsson, we want more!" :)

Sony Ericsson P5i

sony-ericsson-p5i-photoshop.jpg

The rumored specs for Sony Ericsson P5i are:

  • 360 MHz CPU
  • Symbian 9.3 OS, UIQ 3.2, new Touchscreen UI
  • HSDPA&HSUPA connectivity
  • 2.8″ VGA (!) touchscreen
  • 5 megapixel camera with Auto Focus and flash
  • Built-in GPS&Wi-Fi b/g
  • 160 MB ROM and 128 MB SDRAM
  • MicroSD/Memory Stick M2 card slot
  • Weight: 125 gr

SE P5i is expected to be announced this month, probably even next week, and should start shipping in May/June 2008.

While these reports about upcoming Sony Ericsson P5i are just rumors from Esato board so far, I’m inclined to believe them. They are confirmed by the Esato posters that claim to be a SE phone beta-testers, who have the phone and a history of quality news/posts to prove it.

Nokia Strapup Phone Bracelet Is Ideal for Clubbers

Nokia Strapup is the ideal tool for party people and it’s not quite a phone, in the proper meaning of the word. The bracelet-shaped device sends predefined messages to your friends, which are triggered by your movements, while dancing. No typing, no fuss… Just dance and your friends will find out where you are and what’re you doing, having a good time that is.

Nokia claims that it doesn’t plan to manufacture this bracelet phone too soon…

Nokia Strapup Phone Bracelet Is Ideal for Clubbers

blackberry storm 9500 thunder review

The BlackBerry Storm 9500 has been expected for a long time and now finally it has been announced. Storm is also known as Thunder and it does have a lot of great features, like the touchscreen, EV-DO, GPS, Blackberry OS 4.7. The Storm 9500 is not available yet, but should be released in December, for the holiday season and it should be priced low, with a Verizon contract.

Fortunately, the Blackberry Storm has probably the greatest touchscreen of them all, because when you touch it, you really push the display, like a normal button. The technology is called ClickThrough and currently is exclusive for the Blackberry Storm 9500.

When writing text messages, you can hold the phone in landscape mode and use the QWERTY keyboard, else you have the QWERTY keyboard available. Fortunately, the phone will figure by itself if you hold it in portrait or landscape mode and switch keyboards, also the keys will glow when pushed.

Blackberry Storm

The display is a bit better than Blackberry Bold’s, with a 480×360 resolution and 65,000 colors. The Storm features a 3.5mm standard headphone jack, which is great, has four short keys: Talk, End, Back and the Blackberry menu. On the back it features a microSD memory card slot.

Storm 9500’s sizes are 4.4×2.4×0.5 inches and only weight 5.6 ounces, which is not very much for a smartphone with it’s capabilities.

The Blackberry Storm is probably one of the greatest smartphones on the market ( not yet ), if not the best. It has lots of features, like the one that switches between CDMA and GSM networks automatically, without changing the phone number, which offer international roaming. Also, the Storm sports a full HTML internet browser, that unfortunately doesn’t support Flash and supports Cast Music and Mobile TV, the services from Verizon.

Probably it’s biggest lack is the WiFi, I really can’t figure out why didn’t they include it. Though it tries to fill this gap with other connectivity options, like Bluetooth 2.0 with stereo headsets support, dial-up networking, GPS, and Blackberry Maps.

Blackberry Storm

The Blackberry Storm 9500 will run Blackberry’s OS 4.7, the latest version, which is great, becayse it comes with supports for a plentitude of email accounts, Blackberry Enterprise, Lotus notes, IMAP4, POP3, Microsoft Exchange and more.

It features 128MB of flash memory and 1GB of integraded memory, which can be expanded via the microSD / SDHC memory card slot to up to 16GB.

Until now, Blackberry has been known for it’s business devices, but this one tries to attract all kinds of users, from teen to business and music fans, because it features a Media Sync software, that supports a plentitude of file formats, like MP3, WMA, AAC, MPEG4, WMV and H.264. Also the Media Sync can synchronize with iTunes. On the other side, it features a 3.2 megapixel camera, with flash, auto-focus and video recording capabilities.

The Blackberry Storm will come preloaded with IM clients and social networking applications, like Yahoo Messenger, Windows Live, AOL, ICQ, Facebook, Myspace and Flickr, but you can always download more via the Blackberry App Center.

Storm would probably be one of the best smartphones, but it does lack WiFi and it’s a must for today’s smartphones. But if you don’t need it, then probably Blackberry Storm 9500 is the ideal smartphone for you.

Nokia N97

NOKIA N97 IS A GAME-CHANGER
Nokia hasn’t just changed the game with the N97, they’ve moved the goalposts around and changed the shape of the field. We’re not dealing with something that’s going up against the iPhone, the G1 and the pretenders - this is a device that’s taking it right to the ‘ickle laptops, the netbooks.

The N97 is set to launch with 32GB of on board memory, though Anssi said on stage it’ll have 48GB, with another 16GB coming via SD card. That’s more than ample for most people’s on-the-move needs. Add to that a slick interface, that QWERTY keyboard and the kind of hinge that’d make Jobs jealous (yeah, I’m blowing about a hinge - have you seen the action?).

So enough then to make the other phone-makers run scared, but what of the Netbooks? Tipped as one of the biggest tech growth areas for 2009 (and already one of the biggest in 2008) Nokia is walking right into a hot spot with a cracking device. Connectivity? Not a problem, it packs WiFi and HSDPA - better than most netbooks. The N97 has everything it needs to sell itself as a fully-featured phone or a laptop that can make calls. Happy days, no matter what way you look at it.

I think it’ll take a while for all this to sink in, so for now we just have to marvel at its beauty. Roll on mid 2009.

HANDS-ON FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Need to fill your boots on the Nokia N97’s specs? Then look no further as we’ve gathered everything we’ve got right here. Run your finger down the screen as this lot is quite tasty. Behind the 3.5-inch touchscreen sits a bunch of hot tech that’ll ensure this little puppy performs better than anything you’ve ever seen, or used before. The 150g weight isn’t bad either and it feels only marginally bigger than an N95 (though is much slimmer).

We had a fettle with one earlier and it feels soooo good in the hand.

There’s still a bit of work to do on it, but it’s already very plush, with a solid feel in the hand and almost perfect action around the hinge area - the start of the movement is still a little harsh, but it sounds like there might still be a bit of tweaking to go on there. Round the back the camera has a cover to keep the lens fresh (cue more lovely gliding action) and it looks (and feels) a bit like the N85.

The footprint isn’t bad, considering what you’ve got in the hand here. Much neater than a Communicator, though bigger than what we’re mostly used to, it’s still very usable in the hand. Now, for the hard core, we have a little treat. Feast your eyes boys…

Nokia launches 5330 XpressMusic phone

Nokia has launched the 5330 XpressMusic slider phone in the global market but the company did not disclose any India plans

The Nokia 5330 XpressMusic is designed to be more of a fashion phone, and features dedicated music keys and personalisation features to reflect the owner.

You can personalise the lighting effects and have it to react to your mood music, or clothes you're wearing.

Though for Nokia, India has been a significant market due to its sheer size, the company has not said anything regarding the avalability of the 5330 XpressMusci phone here. Since the introduction of music phones in the Indian market, this category has surpassed any other category here, in terms of volume sales.

The 5330 XpressMusic features over 24 hours of playback time and 3D surround sound speakers and a 3.5mm headphone jack

It's really easy to access comunities and social networking sites by bringing them to the homescreen as a bookmark.You can then update your status and view messages straight from your homescreen.

The 5330 XpressMusic features a 3.2-megapixel camera and the Ovi suite of applications so you can share your photos in an instant.

Nokia's 5330 XpressMusic comes packaged with a 2GB microSD card, but it is compatible with cards up to 16GB.

The screen measures a respectable 2.4-inches and the 5330 XpressMusic also features Nokia Maps and A-GPS for navigation.

motorola evoke

One of the most awaited phones from Motorola: Motorola Evoke is all set to be released soon and has already created a lot of buzz around. The mobile is remarkably known for the size and unique design along with the features included in it. Let us look closely into the features and design of this mobile and predict whether the mobile will be a hit or a miss.

To begin with, let us start with the design. The official announcement claims that Motorola Evoke QA4 is small in size and the dimensions of the mobile are 108 x 50.5 x 17.5 mm. It is a slider based mobile but with a difference. The difference is that the sliding part does not have keyboard but normal numbered buttons. Needless to say, it also offers QWERTY but in software mode. The mobile weighs around 128 grams with the battery. The 2.8-inch WQVGA touch screen looks promising from the pictures. Overall, compared to different smart phones available across the globe, the design of this mobile disappointed me to be honest. Motorola Evoke QA4 has a good old classic design but not up to the level of the mobile phones that are coming up nowadays. Speaking of the screen resolution, it is believed to be 240 x 400 pixels, which should give high quality display with vibrant colors.

Keeping design apart, let us have a sneak peek into the features this mobile will offer. Motorola Evoke QA4 will have a 256 MB internal memory with room to expand as well. It has in built GPS and a stereo Bluetooth as well. It has a good mp3 player; there is also room for voice recognition techniques as well. Keeping in mind some of the unique features, it also has accelerometer inside which is very useful and makes browsing and image viewing extremely pleasant to our eyes. The news is that Motorola Evoke QA4 would be in sync with Google contacts and even with Youtube for better experience of multimedia.

The camera of this mobile would be disappointing. Motorola Evoke QA4 would come in 2 mega pixels camera which won’t be giving any extra ordinary pictures. The pictures and the video resolution is expected to be hazy sometimes in absence of light and this will surely be one of the turn downs of this mobile. But in spite of this, it can be branded one of the better smart phones brought out by Motorola which might have a tendency to surprise anyone after its release. The final verdict from my side is that the mobile will do well and keeping in mind the features, the design and the quality of this mobile, Motorola Evoke QA4 would get 7 out of 10 from my side. It would not be a competition killer by any means, but may give out good sales if the price of the mobile is made competitive.

Palm Pre Review

With the entire buzz and the hype around for the latest smart phone addition, Palm Pre has been into limelight for being considered as one of the best smart phones available at present. The unique design, the awesome features and connectivity makes this set a must have for all mobile lovers. Palm Pre has already been creating a lot of gossips and has been receiving great reviews ever since its launch. Let us look into the details of this mobile and check for the uniqueness of this smart phone.

Peaking of the design, the mobile comes in a vertical slider based mobile offering a full QWERTY keyboard. The mobile is well known for its portability. It weighs around 135 grams. The size of this mobile is small and does not look bulky at all, like other smart phones do seem to be so. The size can be compared to an iPhone touch and in fact, it is of lesser size than iPhone when closed! Being small in size, it still offers a great display and the 3.1 wide inch touch screen displays the colors brilliantly. It gives a resolution of 320×480 pixels which is quite great. The high glossiness of the screen may cause some issues while using it in sunlight but still it does not reflect too much.

Among the features, this mobile comes in with an accelerometer which works great with web browsing and image viewing. Besides the regular features like Bluetooth 2.0, EDGE, Wi-Fi and others, it is best known for the unique new platform Palm web OS which makes it connected to the Web continuously non-stop. The browsing is high speed and so are the others features of this mobile. The talk time and the battery life of this mobile is also modest, if not great. The memory can be expanded to about 8GB as well. Besides, the OS also has a unique search program which will start searching the words you type in.

Speaking of its camera, if offers great picture and movie quality. Thanks to the 3 mega pixel camera embedded in it. It also has an LED flash in it and range of other options for its camera. The music quality is great and offers good audio and video with proper resolution as well. Some of the features which are missing include absence of MMS messaging and the unavailability to copy and paste option. Having said this, to sum up this mobile is into a lot of buzz and surely, it has lived up to its expectations. It is priced well and is competitive in the market of smart phones as well. The mobile is made unique and can be claimed as one of the best smart phones around. With an excellent new concept OS and regular connectivity to the Web makes this mobile competitive. So competitive, that some group of users are finding this mobile better than Apple’s iPhone as well.

LG Xenon Review

LG Xenon is one of the latest mobiles by LG that is going to be released soon and the world is actually waiting for that moment. It was rumored to be released around the Christmas season last year, but sadly it did not turn out to be true. Let us look into the finer aspects of this ‘new’ smart phone by LG and find out whether the mobile is actually a great set to own or it is just hype. LG Xenon is a slider based mobile which offers you a great display. It offers a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels and can support over 65K colors in it. The dimensions of the mobile are 105.5 x 53.5 x 15.8 mm and weighs only about 108 grams with the battery in it. It has a 2.8-inch display with vibration feedback and looking at all these specifications, the design of the mobile is great.

The LG Xenon also comes in with full QWERTY keyboard and offers a range of features in it. The keypads are small in size but they are perfect to type and do not cause any problems there. It includes a great mp3 player which offers great quality sound. It supports expandable memory upto16 GB which is also one of the better points of this mobile. The shared memory of the mobile is 80 MB. It has in built HSDPA which gives a speed of 3.6 Mbps. Along with this, GPS, GPRS, EDGE, Bluetooth are also compatible with this mobile. The battery life of this mobile is good but does need recharging more often. The talk time of the LG Xenon lasts for 4 hours and the standby time is 264 hours which means an average battery in it. It also includes some additional features like threaded text messaging along with an option of instant messaging; high speed surfing and mobile e-mail, quad-band GSM and others.

Now speaking of the disadvantages of this mobile, the battery life could have had been made better. The touch screen also is under developed as it reflects too much and when given a touch, it is not so accurate. The headset and the data cable needs to be purchased and does not come along with this mobile. Moreover, the lack of dictionary and Wi-Fi in this mobile reduces the overall value of this mobile. Still, with all the features included in the mobile and taking note of each pros and cons of this mobile, we can still brand this mobile as a great smart phone by LG, if not the best. It has room for improvement but still can be very useful to all multimedia set lovers. The phone is built ideally for the next generation and with so many features, this set is likely to go ahead for a longer duration of time and will prove to be a successful model by LG.

Samsung Omnia Pro

Is Samsung going to release a new Omnia with slide-out QWERTY keyboard and OLED screen? According to a story on Italian HDblog the Samsung Omnia Pro would have this dramatic evolution. The photo is an artist rendition how the Omnia Pro would look given the slide-out keyboard rumor is true.

Features of the Samsung Omnia Pro include 3.5 inch OLED touchscreen with WVGA resolution and 5MP camera. Samsung would still ship the Omnia Pro with Windows Mobile 6.1, but customers can upgrade to the new Windows Mobile 6.5.
Samsung would release the Omnia Pro before the Summer holiday start, which would mean a June time-frame. Samsung already surprised us this weekend with the first Android Samsung Phone I7500 to ship in Germany in June. Is Samsung planning a major attack on the iPhone 2009 that is expected to ship also in June?

BlackBerry Onyx

Our sources called and let us in on the news that RIM has the BlackBerry Onyx in testing. The Onyx is the 3G version of the already released Curve 8900.

From what we hear RIM is gearing up their 3G testing and the Onyx has already been placed with carriers for testing. Beyond the addition of 3G support, we hear whispers of a keyboard revision that is more like the 9630 Tour keyboard that is also part of the Onyx design.

While we don’t yet know all of the specifics, we suspect that we will hear more soon once the Onyx gets a little more testing and development under its belt. It could be that we might see the Onyx before the end of the year, depending on how the initial field trials with the carriers go.

[Photo]
We get lots of requests to compare in detail Nokia 5800 with Apple Iphone 3G. Here are some reasons we believe Nokia 5800 is way ahead than Iphone- 1) Size
The iphone is bigger in size and uneasy for one hand grip. Nokia 5800 is designed to fit well into your hands. Being smaller in width, its easy to operate single handedly. Iphone size: 115.5 X 62.1 X 12.3 mm

Nokia 5800: Finger, stylus, plectrum, handwriting recognition. 6) Features
Apple Iphone has lots of missing features like cut and paste function, saving email attachments, no support for third party headphones, ringtones, pricey iphone applications, many software bugs and other technical glitches. Nokia 5800 Tube has no such issues plus many more amazing features included. 7) Colors
Iphone: Black for 8 & 16 GB, White for 16 GB only.
Nokia 5800: Red, Blue and Black. 8 ) Battery
Nokia 5800 provides upto 35 hrs of music playing time against Apple Iphone which claims just 24 hrs. Overall battery power (talktime/standby) is also about 30% more in Nokia 5800. What more, 5800 has a removable battery which Iphone lacks. Iphone: 5 hrs talk-time, 300 hrs standby, not removable.

Nokia 5800: All the above is possible plus it has MMS ver 1.3, message size upto 600kb, and automatic resizing of Images for MMS. 19) Price
Nokia 5800 is hopefully unlocked (without any contract) and will sell much cheaper for just £219 in UK which is equal to 279 Euros or $385. Apple iPhone 3G, on the other hand, with contract in US comes for $199 & $299 for 8 & 16 GB models and the plans with AT&T are way too expensive. Unlocked Apple Iphones sells for around $800 on Ebay. In other parts of the world, the 8GB unsubsidized Iphone model costs 499 euros ($700) in Italy, 350 pounds ($620) in UK, $700 in India. Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic is expected to sell around the world for about $400 or below. 20) Experience
Nokia: Ages of experience, hundreds of success stories and dozens of smart handsets in current portfolio. Nokia has about 40% market share with the No.1 spot with no close competitors. Certainly the king when it comes to brand value, service and experience. Apple: First phone ever launched by Apple is Iphone, no prior experience in the telecom market. It’s a novice in the market with a very less market share despite having millions of Iphone sold. Verdict:
Almost all the major brands around the world like Samsung, HTC, LG, etc launched their touchscreen smartphones with a hope to beat Apple’s Iphone. No-one came close to Iphone when it comes to looks, style, feel and features. This is the first time a tech giant like Nokia has hit it hard with its first true touchscreen smartphone. Nokia 5800 is a real Iphone killer with way ahead features, perfect looks and great price. Bravo Nokia, Well Done!!
